Planning your perfect Staycation in Stirling

Often referred to as the ‘Gateway to the Highlands’, Stirling is the ideal base for your exploration of Scotland’s legendary landscapes. You can venture onto the pristine white beaches of the west coast or conquer Scotland’s Munros, a list of Scottish mountains over 3,000 ft, the highest Munro is the infamous Ben Nevis at 4,411 ft or appreciate the calm and beauty of more than 30,000 freshwater lochs.

So much to discover

There really is something for everyone on your Stirling staycation – majestic castles and historic houses, museums and theme parks, stunning scenery and walks and also some fantastic sports and activities to enjoy, from cycling and canoeing to skiing and, of course, Scotland is the home of golf.

Scotland on your doorstep

With the two world class cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh just a short drive away and the historic former capital city of Perth to visit as well, a short break in Stirling staying in luxury at the Hotel Colessio, gives you the whole of Scotland on your doorstep – just waiting to be discovered!

Historic Houses & Castles

The city of Stirling is dominated by its Castle, which has been added to over many centuries, and the city and surroundings have been the scene of many battles in the often bloody history of Scotland. As well as the Castle there is the famous Wallace Monument and many other fascinating historic houses and castles to explore.

Museums & Art Galleries

The Battle of Bannockburn Experience describes and explains the history of the famous battle with 3D technology bringing it to life. If art is more your thing, then there’s the Smith Art Gallery & Museum, with a collection of over 400 works by leading Scottish and English artists plus regular events and special exhibitions.

Theme Parks and Days Out

Blair Drummond Safari & Adventure Park provides an immersive experience with a safari drive to explore the lions, giraffes, camels, monkeys and many other fascinating animals, many of which you will maybe never have heard of before – let alone seen! For a different spin on things, visit the world’s only rotating boat lift, the Falkirk Wheel, where you can see stunning views of the countryside.

Shopping & Retail

For those interested in some retail therapy during your stay, head for the Thistles Centre with Debenhams, H&M, Zara, Primark, M&S and many more. Or, perhaps for a more boutique experience, head for the wonderful Victorian Stirling Arcade. Serious shoppers may want to plan a shopping trip to Princes Street in Edinburgh or Sauchiehall Street Glasgow – both easily within your reach by car or train.

Activity Breaks

There are some fantastic walking, cycling and running opportunities near the hotel in the Forth Valley and further afield in the mountains and lochs. This is the home of golf, of course, so as you’d expect there are plenty of courses nearby – but you can also try your hand at some other less well known activities such as curling, archery or canoeing.

Distillery Trail

It would be remiss of us not to mention the world famous ‘water of life’ otherwise known as whisky! There are plenty of distilleries nearby to visit although, that said, you only have to make it to the hotel bar to sample some of their finest work. They say there are 120 distilleries in Scotland, so we’re not saying you could visit them all on just the one break – you might need to plan another visit!

Gardens, Parks & Walks

The countryside around Stirling offers so much in terms of walks, whether you are looking for a relaxing amble or something a bit more challenging. There is also the remarkable Kelpies to marvel at in Helix Park in Falkirk and Loch Lomond and the Trossachs are almost on your doorstep. And after a day in the fresh air, you can relax to the hotel bar for a well earned wee dram!
